3 Types of Emtek Locks and Which Works Best for Your Home

Security is one of the top priorities of the home. It is one of the basic human needs and therefore should be treated with the utmost importance. No person wants to come home to a broken lock on the door to see that they have been robbed of their valuables or worse. We want to keep our families safe at night and our homes secure while we are away, so locking up, and making sure it stays locked, is the key.

Emtek offers a wide variety of locks for every home, and we’ll cover the main three types for you: deadbolts, sideplate locks and electronic locks.

Deadbolts

Emtek deadboltsWe all know what a deadbolt lock is, the steel bolt that you can turn into the door frame to lock the door in place, but why is it an important lock to add to our homes?

Locksmiths, according to Angieslist, say the deadbolt is the key to a home security system. Burglaries, unfortunately, are a large problem and occur generally by forced entry – either by kicking a door in or breaking the doorknob. A deadbolt lock helps to secure the door and protect against these forced entries.

Emtek offers a variety of deadbolt locks that can be added to the doorknob you already have with a design that will compliment your home. These locks are available in a keyed or single-sided option.

Sideplate Locks

A sideplate lockset is a doorknob and deadbolt combined on one metal plate, typically the locks that the majority of new homes have today. These are a good option to use because it gives you the security of the deadbolt and doorknob lock with a nice trimmed design in one plate, rather than two separate pieces on your door. If you’re looking to improve the design of your home, this is a good option to go with.

Emtek offers many personalized designs for this option of lock. The sideplate locksets they have to offer are available in passage, keyed entry, thumb-turn privacy and dummy functions. A passage lockset, despite being labeled as a “lockset”, has no locking capabilities and is best for closets or doors that don’t need locked. The keyed entry lockset has requires a key to gain access from the outside. The thumb-turn privacy lockset is locked by a turn-piece from the inside and has no key access points. The dummy lockset looks like the regular doorknob to match the rest of the home, but has not locking capabilities.

With the different types of locksets, you can fully customize the doors in your home to match, whether the locks are needed or not.

Electronic Locks

Emtek LockEmtek locks come in many forms, and the electronic is a popular option. For those of you who prefer keyless options, electronic locks are probably the route you’ll want to take. While more expensive, they can offer the most security because keys can be copied to break; you are the thing that is needed to open these locks.

The options of electronic locks that Emtek has to offer include deadbolts, electronic keypad locks, entry sets, and the LISCIO Leverset which has Bluetooth programming. Each of these options is available with touchpad or keypad entry. Touchpad entry is great because it requires fingerprints, which no one can copy without your consent. The keypad requires a customizable code that you can change if need be.

The electronic deadbolt, just as with the non-electronic one, can be added to any door knob as a separate piece so your entire lock system does not need to be electronic. The keypad lock, is a keypad on a door knob or handle without the deadbolt. The lockset, just as mentioned previously, has both the dead bolt and door knob or handle with the touchpad or keypad in addition to that. The last of these, the LISCIO Leverset, comes with Bluetooth programming that is compatible with Apple and Android phones.
